Neighborhood pizza place serving up a good pizza to good people all around downriver!
Pizza King is conveniently located around the block from me, so whenever I'm lazy or in a hurry I'll order from here.
My two favorite things are the pizza rolls and cheese bread, I don't really think you'll find better of either anywhere else in the vicinity
The pizza is pretty good too, although not my favorite. My girlfriend likes it because they'll make a quarter of it all veggie for her and meat on the rest for me! Most places we call won't do half and half.
Pizza king... your going on my speed dial! Ordered for the first time tonite and the whole family LOVED the pizza and the garlic cheese bread
...The pepperoni rolls - basically calzones, but I was exposed to pepperoni rolls first - are delicious. Basically a ton of pepperoni and cheese folded into a pizza crust, I might actually miss these more than anything else at Pizza King. I mean, I can get a decent piece of pizza around here, but I can't find anything like a Pizza King pepperoni roll. I have fond memories of picking these things up and eating them like a sub or a burrito, causing all of the filling to slide to the bottom. Can they ship these overnight to NYC?..
I don't know how long this Pizza King has been in business, but it is like a place from another era. I know there has been a pizza place in this very location since the 60s, but I don't know if it is the same people or not. Great old fashioned style pizza and low prices. They also have dinner specials. Friday nights you can get a Cod dinner with huge pieces of cod, a mess of fries, slaw and a bun for about 5 or 6 bucks. Carry out only place. Shhh, don't tell them it is a new century and everyone else charges alot more and gives you less....
What can I say, it is the best Pizza Downriver (Including Detroit). PK's pizza has that chewy crust created by expert pizza makers who understand their craft. The cheese is not oily like most other places, and the sauce they use is quality. They have pizza rolls (calzones) as big as your arm and their garlic pizza sticks (with sauce for dipping) is a must! The bridge between Goddard and Harrison is closed so you'll have to get to them via Fort Street turning on to Harrison - well worthwhile!
